Access to Capital (Loans and Grants) is a financing and loans offered by Black Business Initiative for entrepreneurs and small businesses in Atlantic Canada (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador).

BBI provides loans and grants to eligible Black-owned businesses and connects clients with alternative funding resources. Loans can be used for capital investments, working capital, and short-term receivable financing.

Program details

BBI provides direct financial assistance through loans and grants to eligible Black-owned businesses. Loans can be used for capital investments (equipment, leasehold improvements, property improvement, office equipment), working capital (inventory, payroll, lease payments, accounts management, rent, overhead costs), and short-term receivable financing (financing to service a contract). BBI also connects clients with alternative funding resources beyond its own programs.

Who qualifies

Self-identify as Black or Black-led; majority ownership (>51%) by Black Canadians; legal resident of Canada; minimum 18 years; must have a business plan, business registration, and recent financial statements or projections
