The Genesis Pitch

The Genesis Pitch is a event offered by Genesis Centre for entrepreneurs and small businesses in Atlantic Canada (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador).

An annual pitch competition where five Genesis-affiliated startups compete on stage for more than $45,000 in prizes, including a $30,000 top prize and the iconic Pitcher Plant trophy. Debuted as the finale of techNL Innovation Week 2025.

Program details

The Genesis Pitch is an annual pitch competition that serves as a launchpad for Newfoundland and Labrador's next generation of tech ventures. Five finalists take the stage to share their vision, traction, and potential in front of an audience of founders, funders, and community members. The competition offers more than $45,000 in prizes, including a $30,000 top prize and the iconic Pitcher Plant trophy. The 2025 edition debuted as the finale of techNL Innovation Week at the St. John's Convention Centre (Bowring Ballroom). After prizes are awarded, the celebration continues at Pitch & Party, an exclusive afterparty bringing together founders, partners, investors, and the broader community. Applicants must have participated in a Genesis program (Startups 101, Evolve, or Membership, or former programs Evolution, Evo+, or Enterprise) within the past three years, hold active Genesis membership at the time of competition, be incorporated in Newfoundland and Labrador, and not have secured venture capital funding. Angel investments, government grants, and other non-dilutive funding do not affect eligibility. Past winners may apply only with a new startup. Applications for the next edition are currently closed; interested founders can subscribe to the newsletter for notifications. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.

Who qualifies

Must have participated in a Genesis program (Startups 101, Evolve, Membership, or former programs: Evolution, Evo+, Enterprise) within the past three years. Must hold active Genesis membership at the time of competition. Venture must be incorporated in Newfoundland and Labrador. Must not have secured venture capital funding.
